Folclore de Honduras
 Available in English and Spanish

This book is a collection of traditional Honduran dance tunes collected by Luis Enrique Godoy Pagoaga in a book called Danzas Folklóricas Hondureñas Patituras para Acordeón y Guitarra. This book was given to me in Honduras by his daughter, Yesse, and Folclore de Honduras comes out of that book as arrangements for the harp.

There are 10 accessible tunes in order of keys starting with two in the key of F, five in the key of C and three in the key of G. There is one tune (El Chotis) arranged for the beginner with 1 lever change and then arranged for the advanced intermediate player with lots of lever changes.

David Flores and Carmen Flores, (no relation), both from Honduras, contributed the information about the music and the dances.

Douglas Alonzo, from Honduras, did the beautiful art work for the cover and throughout the book.

Here's what people are saying about the book:

Just read through it, and the book is gorgeous. I enjoyed the biographical information on all the movers and shakers in the Central American harp world. Congratulations on a great book!

I am so thrilled to receive this copy, which means so much to me. It's a beautiful piece of work, created with such dedication and professionalism. It's also a tribute to my father, who devoted himself to music with so much love, and left a legacy that continues to live on through your publication and work. I imagine him so proud from heaven, never imaging it would also become a bridge between life and death. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I know my words are not enough to express my gratitude. We thank God for allowing us to reunite with Lis, a Honduran-Dutch harpist, who is a light in our country, her second homeland. She has lovingly entrusted us with this process.
Yessie Godoy-Honduras

Histortic to Honduras! Thanks to teacher Sharon Thormahlen for this initiative. Congratulations to all who supported this nice harp project in our country. For the first time, a book with Honduran folk songs arranged for the folk harp. All proceeds will go to Harps in Harmony project. We're going to enjoy this book.

You did a wonderful job on this book. I especially liked all the background information and biographies at the beginning and at the end of the book. I look forward to playing these tunes with you and with my harp grandchildren in Guatemala, Honduras, Cuba, and New Orleans. Thank you a thousand times for all your help, support and dedication to these talented musicians and luthiers.

Such a beautiful cover to your new book "Folclore de Honduras." I hear the music by just looking at this illustration.

Folclore de Honduras is a delightful collection of Honduran dance tunes. With arrangements that are well written and accessible, it features music that just might find you dancing in your harp chair.

This new book of music is gorgeous to look at, full of context and born out of an admirable desire to provide a lasting and positive influence. But wait! there's more:  Sharon's talent for creating music that is accessible and fun to play does not fail. Yet each of these Honduran tunes is very unique and offers a new skill to practice. What's not to love?!
Becky Szymanski-Oregon

When I met Sharon Thormahlen in Honduras in March of 2025, she proposed writing a book of folk tunes from Honduras for the folk harp. This was such a pleasant surprise as the harp has just recently been introduced in Honduras through the Harps for Harmony project (also known as Arpas en Armonía). The arrangements are very accessible, with respect for the feeling of the original dance music. She also writes about the origins of the project and spotlights the luthiers that she and Dave Thormahlen generoulsy support with harp building knowledge and tools. It has been a pleasure to work with Sharon on the book, review the arrangements, and help with the context. By doing so, I learned a lot, myself, about this genre. The tunes are fun to play, they invite repetiton and improvisation, inventing bass patterns, playing together and, why not, dancing! Thanks, Sharon, wfor this wonderful book and for the friendship.
